Granite Cadet Squadron members recognized at the 2021 Maryland Wing conference
November 6, 2021 - COLUMBIA, Md. - Civil Air Patrol members from Maryland Wing's Granite Cadet Squadron were recognized for their outstanding achievements during the Maryland Wing annual conference today, held at the Doubltree Hotel in Columbia, Md.

Additionally, Cadet 1st Lt. Abigail Martucci was selected to serve as the aide de camp to Brig. Gen. Regena Aye, CAP national vice commander, for the conference.
Granite Cadet Squadron was also recognized as one of 16 Maryland Wing squadrons to have earned the 2021 Quality Cadet Unit Award. This national CAP award recognizes squadrons who meet specific objective criteria each year. Granite squadron is thrilled to have earned this award in both years since chartering as a Civil Air Patrol squadron in February 2020.
The squadron was awarded the CAP Squadron Aerospace Achievement Award for 2021 for its outstanding accomplishments and work in aerospace education.

Nearly 1,500 members serve in Civil Air Patrol’s Maryland Wing. Last year, wing members flew 13 actual search and rescue missions. Overall, the Maryland Wing flew 32 missions for the State of Maryland, flying 2,245 hours in all mission categories, and was credited with four finds. Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air Force’s Total Force. In this role, CAP operates a fleet of 560 aircraft, performs about 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 82 lives annually. CAP’s 61,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state, and local agencies.
